Does salinity neutralize bacteria and viruses present in raw or 'treated' sewage dumped into the sea?

Nope. Used to live in Hawaii where beaches were closed up to 7 days after a major sewage spill. What eventually happens is the sewage breaks up, and the dilution makes it okay. But the bacteria is still present until the sea life cleans it up---yuk. Fish Burgers anyone??
